My second design of the week is a Pennsylvania Dutch folk art / fraktur-inspired heart made up of hand-drawn florals mixed with sewing symbols (a vintage sewing machine, scissors, thimbles, seam rippers, buttons, etc.) in aqua and white on a super soft heather black tri-blend tee.
I started the design with a rough pencil sketch and then inked it in with a Prismacolor Premiere black brush pen. Then, I scanned the inked design into Adobe Illustrator, traced the image (Image Trace > Black and White Logo), and cleaned up the resulting vectors. My wife Holly (@makervalley) and I decided to put the design on a vintage black tri-blend tee.
Every week or so, with the input of our followers on Instagram (@statelytype + @makervalley), we design and sell a new hand-lettered/hand-drawn t-shirt. This is Maker Valley Quilting and Sewing Week 2—over the next few days, we'll design and share a few quilting and sewing-themed t-shirts. At the end of the week, we'll put the designs up for a vote and the winning design will be produced and sold here on our site.
Update: The Sewing Heart tee is now available for sale!
